Last Week of School 2019

Hello families.  This is it, our final 3 days of first grade.  I cannot believe my time with this group of students is almost over.  We have accomplished so much together this year.  The next three days we will spend reviewing important math concepts, closing out a few more days of reading with Daily 5, making memory books, and cleaning out our cubbies and wrapping up our incredible year together.  Here is the last of our important updates for the year.

Ice Cream Day:  We were unable to make ice cream last week due to lack of supplies.  I am hoping to make it on Tuesday (tomorrow) if we get the items we need to make it happen.  At this point all we need is one more bag of ice and a few boxes of rock salt.  If you can help us with these items we would really appreciate it.  Please just sign-up on the link attached and send the items in with your child in the morning.  Thank you in advance, and thank you to those who have donated already!

Last Day of School/Thorpe Park:  Thursday, May 30 is our last day of school.  We will be spending the majority of the day at Thorpe Park.  We will be eating lunch at the park.  Every student will need to bring a sack lunch from home.  The school will NOT be providing lunches for this field trip.  Please make sure your child has a lunch on this day!  If you would like to join us on the walk to and from, or meet us at the park, please do.

No backpacks are allowed at school on the last day of school.

School dismisses at 12:25 on the last day of school.

Last THINK Assembly of the Year:  On Friday we celebrated our school wide PBIS initiative with our final THINK like a mustang assembly.  Awards were given for our last two letters, N and K.  Nevaeh and Ryan were recognized for being noble and Story and Genesis were given the awards for being kind.  Here are some pictures from our ceremony:

Summer Birthday Celebration at the Tree Park:  After the award ceremony we walked down to the tee park to celebrate our summer birthday's.  This year we had only two summer birthday's, Adinidiin and Marquez, who happen to share the same exact birthday!  We sang happy birthday, enjoyed a birthday treat, and ran around the tree park until it was time for us to return to school for lunch.  It was so nice to enjoy some fresh air and watch the kiddos play and have fun!  Here are some summer birthday fun photos:

I will be blogging one more time this year to insure everyone gets pictures from our Thorpe Park field trip.  I cannot believe my time with these beautiful children is almost over.  I cannot express how much I have loved and adored this class, how very special they have been to me.  While I never have favorite students (true story) this has been one of my most favorite 1st grade classes I have ever had the pleasure of teaching.  Each child has grown so much in so many ways.  This group has sparked a new joy in my teaching.  They are my babies!  It is really hard for me to say good-bye and turn this group over to next year's teachers, although I know they will all be in excellent hands!  If this blog were a piece of paper you would see the tear stains I am currently leaving on my keyboard as I type.  Thank you families for being so involved in your children's lives and education.  It showed in their efforts and in their character.   Your students are outstanding, and I love them so, and will miss them dearly!  3 more days, I am going to soak it all in! - 💛Ms. Shaw

Last Full Week of School - May, 2019

Happy snowy Monday everyone.  This blog is going to be all about our events, past and future.  Let's start with our trip to the library.  We managed to avoid any bad weather and we were all nicely bundled, so no one felt cold (at least no one complained about being cold).  We learned all about how to sign up for the free summer reading program at the library, in which we can earn prizes for reading.  We also enjoyed a wonderful story time and toured the children's library.  Below are some pictures from our morning at the library.  I highly encourage everyone to check out the information that went home with your child about the summer reading fun program, and to sign your child up for this program.  It is a fun way to keep them engaged in reading over the summer, costs nothing, and earn some fun prizes along the way!

Bike to School Day:  Tomorrow (Tuesday, May 21st) is Bike to School Day.  Kids are encouraged to ride their bikes to school, and parents are encouraged to ride along with them.  After school there will be a Kidical Mass Bike Ride on the FUTS.  Families who wish to take part will be meeting across the street in the FJA parking lot at 4:00, on their bikes of course.  After you ride the trails you will end up back at FJA parking lot where you can enjoy some fun bike games, an ice cream social, make a t-shirt, and Fratelli's will be on hand selling pizza for dinner.  The fun goes from 5-7, after you ride.  Ride to school and stay after to ride your bike across the street for Kidical Mass!  Woo-hoo!  Sounds like a fun day.

Summer Birthday Celebration:  This Friday we will be walking to the tree park to celebrate our summer birthday kiddos.  If your child has a summer birthday and you would like to send in any kind of treat/snack for this event you may.  We will be singing happy birthday to each child who has a summer birthday (individually, of course!) and enjoy treats and some play time at the park.  If any one would like to join us for this short but fun field trip, we will be gone from about 9:30-10:30 - just let me know.  Permission slips for this will go home tomorrow.  I will be making this a combined permission slip, meaning this will also serve as the permission slip for our last day of school field trip to Thorpe Park

Ice Cream Week:  This week is ice cream week in our class.  This means we will be doing some fun ice cream activities, and on Thursday we will be reading about how ice cream is made (farm to store).  After we read our story we will make homemade ice cream.  We will need a few items to make our ice cream.  If you can help donate to our very yummy cause please sign up on our attached sign-up genius link...   https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0E4FA4A72CA0FF2-icecream1.  Thank you in advance for helping us make ice cream week fun and delicious!

Memorial Day:  School will be closed Monday, May 27th for Memorial.  That's right, this weekend is our final 3 day weekend of the year.  I hope you all have fun and stay safe!

Last Day of School:  Our last day of school will be next Thursday, May 30th.  We will be enjoying our day by heading to Thorpe Park.  This permission slip will go home tomorrow as part of the combined tree park permission slip.  All students will need to bring a lunch from home on the last day of school, as we will be eating at the park.  We will not be able to get lunches from the cafeteria this go around, so again - everyone must pack a lunch from home!  We will leave a little after 9 and will be back a little after 12.  If anyone would like to join us, please let me know via email or note in the agenda.

Bearizona Pictures:  As promised, here are some pictures from last weeks field trip to Bearizona...

I cannot believe we are in our last 7 days of school.  We are still going strong, wrapping up our Bears and learning to tell time to the half hour.  Please practice skip counting by 5's, this helps us with telling time.  Homework is only spelling this week, which will be the last week of any homework at all.  Where did the year go?  I am not ready to say goodbye to this class....😢  -Ms. Shaw
