Bearizona 2019

Hello families.  Bearizona is tomorrow, below you will find your final bit of information before our big day.  First, let's look at what we will be learning in class this week.

Math:  We will wrap up our shapes unit and head into our unit on fractions.

ELA:  We will mainly focus on our bear research projects, reading stories about bears.  This will include our story "Fishing Bears," which will be our main text for the next two weeks.  For our research project we will focus on two bears, the American Black Bear (which we will see featured at Bearizona) and the Brown Bear (which is featured in our story).

Science:  We will begin our final science unit of the school year, focusing on the study of sound.

Social Studies:  This Wednesday will be our final day of Social Studies with Mrs. Ogg.  The students have truly enjoyed our "switch" days and have learned so much from her this year!

Bearizona Field Trip:  Tomorrow (Monday, May 6th) is our field trip to Bearizona.  Please remember to pack your child a lunch if you indicated that your child would be bringing a lunch from home.  If you marked your child would need a school lunch, we have you covered!  If possible, please empty your child's backpack of all items except for their lunch, a water bottle, and a hat.  Otherwise, we will be spending time at school before the field trip having to do so.  Also, please sunscreen your child before they arrive at school.  DO NOT send your child with money, they are NOT allowed to visit the gift shop or the concession stands at all!  Parent chaperones, please be ready to leave shortly after the morning bell (and after a trip to the bathrooms).  I will give you your assigned groups in the morning.  At this point we do have all needed chaperones.  If anyone else is interested in joining us at Bearizona, you are welcome to drive down and meet us there!  If you let me know you will be meeting us at Bearizona I will make sure I add you to your child's group. However, you will be responsible for your entry fee, as this is not a cost the school can occur.  Thank you for your understanding.  I cannot wait for tomorrow! 🐻

School Closed Friday:  Don't forget, this is a 4 day school week.  School will be closed this Friday, May 10th due to an unused snow day.  Please plan for childcare accordingly.

THINKing like Mustangs:  On Friday our PBIS committee held an assembly to honor students for the letters H and I in our school wide behavior program that encourages students  to THINK like a Mustang!  The H stands for helpful and the I for innovative.  Our class awards went to Ella and Tate for helpful, because they are always eager to help me out in the classroom, plugging in iPads, running things to other teachers for me, helping me pick stuff up.  I never have to ask them twice, and they often volunteer.  They are both a huge help to me!  Innovative went to Liam and Andres.  These two are always very focused on lessons, and come up with very unique ways of solving many concepts.  Sometimes I stop and say, "Wow, I didn't even think of it that way."  Sometimes their innovative ways of thinking about the world make me laugh.  Here are some pictures of the four of them receiving their awards.  Way to go you four!  Next up is Noble and Kind.
